Second Announcement and Call for Abstracts
VIII International Symposium on New Ornamental Crops, XII International Protea Research Symposium and XVII International Protea Association Conference Perth Australia
20 to 24 August, 2015
The Conference will provide a forum for researchers from around the globe to present the latest research on developing new ornamental crops for world markets and current research on Proteaceous species and related plants. The scientific program of four days features two days of combined plenary sessions followed by separate concurrent sessions, one focussed on Proteaceae and related plants, the other on new ornamental crops. This is followed by two days of technical field visits. Keynote speakers incude:
Prof Tim Entwisle: highly respected Royal Botanic Gardens Director and scientific communicator and author of the recently published Sprinter and Sprummer, Australia’s Changing Seasons.
Prof Stephen Hopper: conservation biologist, who has named some 300 plants new to science and has extensive publications in evolution, phylogenetics, ecology and taxonomy.
Dr Pete Kruger: US based General Manager of Ball Ornamentals, who will share his knowledge of plant product development and marketing, emphasizing Australian and South African plants.
Dr Gerhard Malan: a South African renowned for his knowledge and extensive experience of the cultivation and marketing of Proteaceae.
Participants interested in either an oral or a poster presentation are now invited to submit an abstract on one of the key themes for the conference. These include innovations and new technologies associated with breeding, propagation, production and postharvest management of Proteaceae and new ornamental crops. In addition there will be discussions on the commercialisation of new varieties, marketing and market trends, and the state of the industry.
